Underwater camera set and a boat

Between two boat dives, your complete setup will usually remain assembled. Rinse it with fresh water after the first dive, but do not leave it in the shared rinse tank where other cameras may contact it. If there is no camera table on board, wrap the fully assembled setup in a towel or another soft material and place it in a safe location. This keeps the equipment protected until the next dive.

Why should you not leave it in the rinse tank?

On a boat, a rinse tank is often shared by several divers. If your underwater camera remains inside, someone may place a larger setup on top of your equipment, which can cause damage or scratches. Use the tank to rinse your equipment, not as a place to store the complete setup between two boat dives. Removing it after rinsing keeps it away from other camera sets placed in the same tank.

How can you use your own rinse bag on board?

With a waterproof rinse bag, you do not need to use the shared rinse tank. You can fill the Kraken underwater camera bag with fresh water and use it to rinse your fully assembled setup after the dive. The same waterproof rinse bag can also be used to transport the complete setup. This gives your underwater camera a separate place on board for rinsing after the dive and for carrying the assembled equipment.

What should you do with the port between two dives?

Dry the port after rinsing with a microfibre cloth. This removes water droplets that could otherwise leave marks on the glass. Dry the underwater housing as well to remove droplets from the metal finish. A wet neoprene port cover can remain on the port between dives. After the final dive, rinse the port and cover with fresh water and let them dry separately to prevent marks on the port.

  • Rinse the assembled underwater camera with fresh water
  • Remove the camera from the shared rinse tank after rinsing
  • Use a waterproof rinse bag for rinsing and transport
  • Dry the underwater housing and port with a microfibre cloth
  • Dry the port and neoprene cover separately after the final dive
