Step Rings for Underwater Housing Ports

Step rings are metal or alloy adapters used to attach wet lenses with one thread size to a housing port with another. This ensures compatibility between optics and housings.

They are lightweight, durable, and allow the use of existing wet lenses on multiple housing systems. Step rings prevent the need for duplicate lens equipment.

Common Thread Sizes in Underwater Photography

The most frequently used thread standards are M52 and M67. Step rings convert between these sizes, allowing wet macro or wide-angle lenses to fit securely on different ports.

  • Convert M52 lenses to M67 ports
  • Adapt M67 lenses to smaller ports

Practical Use of Step Rings Underwater

Step rings are mounted directly onto the housing port. Once attached, they provide a secure thread for wet lenses, maintaining stability and alignment during a dive.

Choosing the correct ring size ensures optical performance is preserved and avoids issues such as vignetting or misalignment with the lens port combination.

  • Connect lenses, filters and ports with different thread sizes
  • Support M52 and M67 compatibility
  • Lightweight and easy to install
  • Enable reuse of existing wet lenses
  • Prevent misalignment and vignetting
