Clamps for connecting ball arms in underwater camera rigs

Clamps form the joints between ball arms, trays and lights. By tightening or loosening the screw, arms can be locked into position or adjusted for flexible light placement.

They are essential for building modular systems, linking trays, arms and strobes into one stable setup. For an overview of arm systems, see the blog the perfect arms for your underwater camera.

Different clamp types and their uses

Clamps come in standard versions as well as special designs for particular setups. A long clamp is reinforced and provides space for folding larger arms such as float arms.

  • Standard clamps connect a ball arm to a light or tray
  • Long clamps create clearance for larger arm diameters

Specialised clamps with extra functionality

Some clamps feature extensions for holding accessories. For example, a clamp can carry a lens holder while still joining two arms together in the same joint.

A wide clamp version allows two ball arms to be connected at a broader angle. The slanted sides increase clearance and flexibility when manoeuvring arms around strobes or video lights.

Multi-arm clamp systems

Beyond standard models, there are triple clamps and quadruple clamps. These let users attach several arms or accessories at a single connection point, useful for complex lighting setups.

For related components, see ball arms or float arms, which are commonly paired with clamps in underwater rigs.
