Optical cables: light transmission to strobe underwater
Optical cables are fibre links that relay a flash pulse to the external strobe underwater. The pulse triggers the strobe with no electrical contacts. One end mounts at the housing’s fibre port, the other at the strobe receiver. P
Selection factors: length, fibre core quality and connector types
Choose length to suit arm reach, and consider fibre core count. Connector type must match the housing bulkhead and the strobe sensor for a secure fit.
- Lengths from 20 cm (≈8") to 200 cm (≈79")
- Connector types as in underwater housings
Handling, routing and maintenance for reliable strobe triggering
Route the cable along trays & arms to avoid sharp bends. Use gentle radii of at least 5 cm (≈2"). Avoid tight coils that bruise fibres.
Rinse in fresh water after dives, agitate gently, and dry fully before storage. Keep caps on when not in use.
- Transfers flash light optically to trigger strobes
- Works without electrical contacts in wet environments
- Match connectors to housing ports and strobe sensors
- Route with gentle curves; secure to trays and arms
- Rinse, dry and cap ends to protect fibre tips
