Base adaptors
Every underwater arm system starts with a solid connection to the housing tray. Base adaptors provide this link, acting as the anchor point where arms, clamps and lighting setups begin.

Base adaptors for connecting arms to underwater trays and housings
A base adaptor creates the first joint between the tray of a housing and an arm system. Without this component, it is not possible to mount ball arms or flex arms securely.
The exact adaptor required depends on the tray brand and type, as well as the arm system being used. Different housings may use different base fittings, so compatibility must be checked carefully.
Function in modular arm systems
Once the base adaptor is attached, the rest of the rig can be built with ball arms or flex arms, connected by clamps and finished with strobe or light adapters.
- Provides the anchor point for ball or flex arms
- Varies per tray and housing model
Variants of base adaptors
There are multiple versions, from simple single mounts to dual mounts that allow two arms to start from one tray handle. The choice depends on the weight of the rig and the lighting setup required.
For guidance on how arms, clamps and adaptors work together, see the blog the perfect arms for your underwater camera, which explains differences between the main arm systems.
Choosing the right adaptor
When selecting a base adaptor, consider tray type, housing design and arm system. Using the correct adaptor ensures rigid and reliable support for strobes and video lights under water.
This avoids stress on the tray and keeps the modular rig stable during dives, even with heavy equipment attached.
- Anchor point between tray and arm system
- Choice depends on tray and housing brand
- Available in single and dual mount designs
- Works with ball arms or flex arms
- Essential for stable underwater lighting rigs
