o-TURTLE 3 SMART TTL trigger for Olympus / Panasonic

The o-TURTLE SMART 3 is a TTL and manual flash trigger for compatible Olympus and Panasonic mirrorless cameras used in underwater housings. It controls supported underwater strobes via fibre optic or sync cord, depending on configuration. The SMART 3 version uses new hardware and software, USB-C connectivity and a user-replaceable battery with three times the capacity of the previous SMART 1 and SMART 2 versions.

Camera compatibility

Olympus TTL compatibility is stated for the E-M1, E-M1 Mark II, E-M1 Mark III, E-M5, E-M5 Mark II, E-M5 Mark III, E-M10, E-M10 Mark II and E-M10 Mark III.

Olympus RC mode is stated for the E-M5 Mark II, PEN-F, E-M1 Mark II, E-M10 Mark II, E-M10 Mark III, E-M1X, E-M5 Mark III and E-M1 Mark III.

For Panasonic, wireless mode is stated for the GH4, GH5 and GH6. TTL mode is stated for the GH4, GH5, GH6 and GH5 II.

Strobe compatibility

Strobe compatibility supplied as of June 2025 includes Ikelite DS160; Seaflash 60D and 160D; Inon Z240 and Z330; Sea&Sea YS-110A, YS-D1, YS-D2, YS-D2J, YS-D3 and YS-D3 DUO; Subtronic 160 and 270; One UW; RED64; Retra PRO, PRO X and PRO MAX; AOI Intelli Strobe; Backscatter HF-1; and APOLLO S.

With the AOI Intelli Strobe and Backscatter HF-1, Olympus RC mode supports HSS, TTL and manual operation according to the supplied compatibility information. On Panasonic in wireless mode, only TTL control is stated for these strobes.

Flash control and HSS

High-Speed Sync (HSS) switches automatically at a limit that can be defined in the setup software. Supported functions depend on the selected camera, operating mode and strobe. Current compatibility should therefore be checked in the PC or Mac configuration software before configuring the system.

Battery status and configuration

The SMART button indicates the remaining battery level with flashes: four flashes indicate 100%, three 75%, two 50% and one 25%. The USB-C connection is used for both charging and configuration.
