Function and purpose of shades and rings

Shading rings and port shades limit stray light from entering the lens at extreme angles. This reduces glare, flare and unwanted reflections that can appear as bright arcs or ghosting in underwater images. Anti-reflective rings absorb or block light between the port and lens, improving contrast and colour accuracy.
