Marco lenses for you Gopro under water

INON has introduced two new macro lenses for the GoPro. Due to the short focusing distance, you can now also capture small subjects in full frame. Normally, the focusing distance of your GoPro is about 60 centimeters. By attaching a macro lens (on an adapter) to your GoPro, you can reduce that distance to 4.8 cm. The lenses can be used (with an adapter) on an original GoPro underwater housing (protective housing), as well as on an Actionpro T-housing for DJI Osmo Action 3 and 4.

INON Macro Lenses for GoPro

The INON UCL-G165 II SD lens for GoPro was already available. Now, INON has further expanded the lens range for GoPro with two new close-up lenses: the INON UCL-G100 SD and the INON UCL-G55 SD. The first offers double magnification compared to the existing UCL-G165II lens. The second lens magnifies up to 4 times!

Both lenses come with focus sticks. These indicate the minimum distance at which you can focus. With the UCL-G55 SD, the focusing range is also indicated. Handy for focusing! The width between sticks indicates your horizontal shooting range. The sticks are foldable, retractable, and removable.

The lenses are suitable for mounting on a GoPro Hero 4 and all newer models. The maximum depth is 60 meters.

Which macro lens for which situation?

> The UCL-G165II SD has a wide angle of view of 110 degrees and a large depth of field, perfect for macro photography where you want to capture the surroundings around the subject.

> The UCL-G100 is an easy-to-use, versatile close-up lens with a shorter minimum focusing distance. The underwater angle of view is 90 degrees. This is comparable to the angle of view of just the GoPro without a lens (94 degrees). This lens has a deeper depth of field than other lenses in its class.

> The UCL-G55 allows you to take super macro close-up photos. This is unprecedented with a GoPro! This lens is specially designed for photographing small underwater life such as nudibranchs. For video, it is certainly advisable to use a tripod with this lens to get a stable image.

INON SD Adapter required for lens mounting

To attach INON SD lenses to a GoPro underwater housing, you need an INON SD adapter. Under water you can easily mount and remove the lenses using the convenient SD (bayonet) attachment. Therefore, underwater, you can still choose whether to work with or without the lens. Certain wide-angle lenses also fit on this adapter. Thus, you can use your GoPro in various ways underwater and even switch between wide-angle and macro.

The required SD adapters vary depending on the type of GoPro. For the GoPro HERO12, HERO11, HERO10, and HERO9, you need this SD adapter to mount a macro lens. All types of SD adapters are depicted at the bottom of this article.

Adjusting settings on your GoPro for even more magnification

The distance between the two focus sticks indicates the field of view when the GoPro is set to "WIDE" mode. The GoPro has various field of view settings. By setting your GoPro to "Linear" or another narrower viewing angle, it's possible to achieve even more magnification. Recording at high resolution such as 4K with a "1.4x" zoom can further magnify the subject with relatively little loss of image quality.
